Veneers are thin, porcelain shells that fit over the natural tooth like a sleeve. They completely cover gaps, discoloration, and crooked or misshaped teeth, creating the appearance of a balanced, authentic-looking smile. The translucent porcelain used in veneers is custom-blended from material of several different hues so that a beautiful result indistinguishable from the natural teeth can be achieved. Porcelain veneers are custom-made to match each patient’s unique appearance characteristics and provide a knockout, one-of-a-kind smile. Many of our patients from the Bethesda, Alexandria, and Chevy chase areas choose porcelain veneers because of their numerous benefits, which include:
Patients in Alexandria and surrounding areas can receive porcelain veneers in about two visits to Revive. In the initial visit, the dentist first applies a local anesthetic, which allows the patient to enjoy absolute comfort throughout the procedure. Next, he or she gently shaves away a small portion of the tooth enamel to accommodate the veneer and then makes a mold of the teeth and mouth, which is sent to the dental laboratory that will craft the veneers. Finally, the dentist places temporary veneers, which the patient wears until the permanent veneers are ready (usually in about a week). At that point, the patient returns to our Washington, D.C. office for the second visit to have the porcelain veneers placed. The dentist begins this visit by administering a local anesthetic. He or she then carefully removes the temporary veneers and bonds the permanent ones to the teeth, ensuring a flawless fit. Finally, the dentist buffs the veneers to a shine, and the patient can leave with a beautiful new smile.
